Greenawalt Thompson, 92, of Lancaster, PA, died peacefully in Lancaster Township, on Sunday, February 3, 2013 following a nine month illness.A lifetime resident of Lancaster, Ginny was the widow of Norman R. Thompson who died on January 17, 1988. They were married for 45 years. She was the daughter of the late Walter Leon Jacob Greenawalt and Kathryn Towanda Rehrig Greenawalt. A graduate of J.P. McCaskey High School, Ginny worked in the office during World War II at Penn Dairies and was affiliated with Dutch Gems and Jewelry Store. She was a homemaker and worked with scouting and school activities. She loved all animals and helped to rescue wildlife. She enjoyed spending time with her family and taking trips to the shore and mountains. She was a former member of St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church. Ginny is survived by her daughter, Beverly A. Thompson of Lancaster, PA, and a brother in law, Robert Lackner of Broomall, PA and numerous nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her sister, Marguerite Beatrice Knupp and her brother, Walter Leon Greenawalt, Jr. She will be lovingly missed by her family and friends. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Ginny?s Life Celebration Funeral Service from the Funeral Home of Fred F. Groff, Inc., 234 W. Orange Street, Lancaster, PA on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at 1:00 P.M. with The Rev. Jillian Riddle officiating. Interment at Conestoga Memorial Park. Friends may call at the Fred F. Groff Funeral Home on Wednesday from 12 Noon until time of service.
