Ban semi-autos a good first step

TO THE EDITORS:

I agree with Kenneth John's letter, Jan. 18. A gun on the table will not do any harm until it is picked up.

But if that gun is picked up and it is a semi-automatic, it will do a lot more damage than a single shot pistol.

The first step for gun control should be a ban on semi-automatic weapons.
