TO THE EDITORS:

I would like to share a random act of kindness that my family received on Jan. 16 at the Turkey Hill, Sharp Shopper plaza, on Route 322, Ephrata.

My husband and I came from Walmart, where we purchased a pack of ramen (egg noodles) and a loaf of bread to feed our family of six for dinner. We then stopped to get fuel for our home since we had run out that afternoon.

As I was digging to the bottom of my purse for every last nickel I could find, a gentleman named Marty, from the Middlecreek Church of the Brethren, approached my husband at our car. He had startled us, and apologized for doing so.

In a soft-spoken voice, he asked if my husband had ever heard of "random acts of kindness." Immediately, he handed my husband a gift card for Turkey Hill and asked if we could use it.

I jumped out of the car, tears rolling down my face, and explained that we were digging for change and had $6 for fuel to heat our home for the evening. And he said he hopes the card helps.

He then returned with money and said, "Here, get all you can." We filled the can and couldn't believe how this could not come at a more needed time.

As we were leaving, he and several young men were gathered, talking. We once again stopped and tearfully thanked them for their generosity.

I want to share with the community that these young men and Marty, from the Middlecreek Church of the Brethren, so unselfishly gave to a family so in need. God truly does work in mysterious ways, and no matter how tough times get, just remember that there are people out there with the lead of God's hands helping those who truly need it.

Thank you for your random act of kindness, and may all the blessings from God be with you.

Ephrata
