Semi-automatic shotguns are OK

TO INTELL EDITORS:

I read the Jan. 28 editorial, "Reed's brave stand" and noticed this error: "Hunters may not hunt with semi-automatic weapons."

Semi-automatic shotguns are legal in some instances for hunting in Pennsylvania fields and woods.

I have been a hunter in Pennsylvania for over 60 years and many times have used semi-autos for taking game. Semi-autos are legal for taking some small game, crows and waterfowl.

Turkeys, while considered big game by the game commission, may be hunted with semi-auto shotguns.

Other big game deer, bear and elk can only be hunted with hand-operated weapons.

For more information, see the 2012/2013 Pennsylvania Hunting & Trapping Digest.
