Ronald G. Etter, 76, of Lancaster, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 31, 2013, after a short illness. He was under the care of Hospice and Community Care. He passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving daughters and family. Born in Lancaster on October 18, 1936, he was the son of the late Walter E. and Anna Mehl Etter. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Carol Etter.Ronald graduated from J.P. McCaskey High School in 1954, and he attended St. Joseph University in Philadelphia. He retired from the Human Resources Department at Armstrong World Industries in 1993 after nearly 40 years of service. At the time of his retirement he was Supervisor of Retirement and Disability. Previously, he served in Production Planning for many years.Ronald spent many years as a Boy Scout and Boy Scout Leader for Troop 81 in Lancaster. He also served as Scout Commissioner. He worked with the Junior Achievement Program, and was active with the Lancaster Fencibles, a Civil War Re-enactment group. He was an active member of the Landisville Lions Club until the time of his death, and recently received the "Lion Dan Walter Memorial Award". He enjoyed monthly outings with "Club 54", a group of McCaskey classmates who graduated in 1954. He was a member of Pearl Street United Methodist Church in Lancaster. Time he spent with his family was one of the greatest joys of his life. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and always found time to help others. He enjoyed history, collecting, reading, and puzzles. He was an avid Phillies and Penn State fan, as well as a Lancaster Barnstormers fan. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren participate in sports, school plays, and musicals. He enjoyed yearly vacations to Stone Harbor, New Jersey.He is survived by his daughters: Claire, wife of Jeffrey Martin of Washington Boro; Phyllis, wife of David Stroh of WillowStreet; and, Karen Reese of Lancaster. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Kevin Martin, husband of Kim of Millersville; Michael Martin, husband of Rebecca of Conestoga; Justin Reese, husband of Lisa of Reading; Sean Stroh, husband of Melissa of Alabama; Lauren Huncher, wife of John, of Marietta; and, Erin Reese, fiancee of Eric Custer of Elizabethtown. In addition, he is survived by eight great-grandchildren: Lexie and Ryan Martin of Millersville; Kamerin Custer of Elizabethtown; Abigail and Faith Martin of Conestoga; Tyler Reese of Reading; and, Kyle and Nicole Huncher of Marietta.He was preceded in death by his sisters June Graybill, Shirley Good, and Nancy James, and brothers Walter and Robert.A Celebration of Ronald?s Life will be held at the Andrew T. Scheid Funeral Home, 320 Blue Rock Road, Route 999, Millersville, PA 17551 on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at 10 AM (Visitation 9-10 AM) with Msgr. David L. James officiating. Interment will be in the Millersville Mennonite Cemetery. Kindly omit flowers.
