Elizabeth M. "Betty" Butzer Berrier knows a thing or two about movies and politicians.

"Dwight D. Eisenhower was the best president, and Clark Gable was the most handsome movie star," Berrier says.

What else can one learn from Berrier? Maybe this: She knows how to celebrate birthdays.

"My family celebrated everyone's birthday, and they always had cake. ... It's the best way," she says.

Take it from a woman who has marked so many birthdays.

Berrier turned 101 on Jan. 13 and celebrated the milestone by -- you guessed it -- sharing cake and ice cream with relatives and friends.

Berrier was born in Elizabethtown on Jan. 13 1912, the third of seven children of Frank and Elizabeth Butzer.

At 19, she married Mark Berrier, who would be her husband of 70 years. The couple had six children. Mark died in 2001.

Berrier worked at Hamilton Watch and RCA Corp.for several years. She is a member of Elizabethtown Chapter 407, Order of the Eastern Star.

The grandmother of 20, great-grandmother of 35 and great-great-grandmother of six, Berrier is a lifetime member of the former Christ Reformed Church, now Christ Church United Church of Christ.

Berrier was an avid card player, and loved to dance, especially the Charleston and polka.

She enjoyed traveling, reading and cooking. Her favorite food is chicken. She also likes oysters, cup cheese and liverwurst, onion and limburger cheese sandwiches.

Berrier keeps busy receiving visitors every day at the Masonic Village where she lives.
