Eyesore at train station
TO THE EDITORS:
I wonder if anyone other than me thinks a visual disservice has been done to our city's train station.
Why, oh why, after all the funds recently expended on the outside of our beautiful historic station, and with all the after-thought monies allotted to soon bring the inside back to its original glory, were the ugly steel girder weather shelters thrown up on its front and side? Maybe the inside restoration wasn't the only afterthought on the project.
I'm wondering if, for about the same money, there couldn't have been brick columns erected supporting "period-like" designed canopies?
Rather than being a jewel to our city's northern gate-way, it's now just a building behind some ugly steel girders. Better that comers and goers using the station should use umbrellas than to have these eyesore atrocities.
My hope is that the powers-to-be have room for a bit more afterthought, get back "on track" and plan for the removal of, and the improved replacement of, what in my mind is a big mistake.
