COLLEGE BASKETBALL Blue Devils hold off Wake Forest

Mason Plumlee scored a career-high 32 points and No. 5 Duke held off Wake Forest 75-70 on Wednesday night.
Seth Curry added 21 points, including a tiebreaking 3-pointer in the final minutes for the Blue Devils (18-2, 5-2 Atlantic Coast Conference).
They shot nearly 52 percent -- despite going just 2-for-14 from 3-point range -- and got a huge night from their senior big man to earn their first road victory of the season.
Freshman Devin Thomas had 15 points for the Demon Deacons (10-10, 3-5), who were denied their second upset of a nationally ranked state rival in eight nights.
C.J. Harris and Travis McKie added 14 points each for Wake Forest, which led 66-65 on Tyler Cavanaugh's three-point play with 4:02 left.
Plumlee finished 12 of 15 from the field and 8 of 10 at the free throw line. His free throw with 3:48 left tied it at 66.
Curry then put the Blue Devils ahead to stay with his 3-pointer -- just the Blue Devils' second of the night -- on their next possession.
After Madison Jones pulled the Demon Deacons to 69-68 on a backdoor layup with 1:40 left, Wake Forest came up empty on its next two trips downcourt while the Blue Devils pulled away.
Plumlee made it 71-68 with a layup over Thomas with 1:16 left, and Rasheed Sulaimon's pullup jumper pushed the lead to five with 27.6 seconds to go.
After Plumlee blocked Harris' layup with about 20 seconds left, Quinn Cook hit a free throw with 15.8 left to make it 74-68.
McKie's basket with 3.1 seconds to go pulled Wake Forest to 74-70, but Curry iced it on a free throw with 2.4 seconds to go.
Cook finished with 12 points for the Blue Devils, who claimed their seventh straight win in the series and denied the Demon Deacons their biggest win since knocking off then-No. 1 Duke four years ago. Wake Forest upset North Carolina State eight nights earlier behind 25 points and 14 rebounds from Thomas.
Michigan 68, Northwestern 46: Trey Burke had 18 points and eight assists, and the No. 1 Wolverines were nearly flawless at the start route to victory over the Wildcats.
The Wolverines made 10 of their first 11 shots and went the entire first half without a turnover. They didn't commit a foul, either, until the final minute of the half.
Michigan took over the top spot in the AP poll this week for the first time since the 1992-93 season. The Wolverines can now prepare for Saturday night's showdown at No. 3 Indiana.
Indiana 97, Purdue 60: Cody Zeller scored 13 of his 19 points in the first half, Christian Watford added 17 points and the No. 3 Hoosiers routed the Boilermakers.
The Hoosiers (19-2, 7-1 Big Ten) have won four straight overall and five consecutive road games in league play dating to last season. They remained tied for the Big Ten lead with No. 1 Michigan.
Purdue (11-10, 4-4) was led by freshman center A.J. Hammons, who had a career-high 30 points, but couldn't avoid a second straight home loss to the Hoosiers. The Boilermakers have lost only twice in their last six games.
Cincinnati 62, Rutgers 54: Sean Kilpatrick scored 19 points and the No. 24 Bearcats intensified their defense in the second half, overcoming a 10-point deficit to beat the Scarlet Knights.
Cincinnati (17-4, 5-3 Big East) blocked eight shots, forced 21 turnovers and held the Scarlet Knights to 24 points in the second half. The Bearcats also won at Rutgers 68-58 on Jan. 12.
Myles Mack scored 15 points to lead the Scarlet Knights (12-8, 3-6), who have lost four in a row with an offense that can't find any consistency.
LSU 73, Missouri 70: Anthony Hickey scored 20 points, Andre Stringer added 18 and LSU defeated No. 17 Missouri .
Hickey had 14 points in the second half and Stringer converted a key four-point play late in the game for the Tigers (11-7, 2-5 Southeastern Conference).
Phil Pressey scored 25 for Missouri (15-5, 4-3), which has lost all four of its games on the opposing team's home court this season. Jabari Brown added 19 points and Lawrence Bowers had 10. Bowers played for the first time in three weeks due to a knee injury.
Kansas State 83, Texas 57: Thomas Gipson had 17 points off the bench, Angel Rodriguez added 11 points and eight assists, and the No. 18 Wildcats routed the Longhorns
Creighton 91, Missouri State 77: Doug McDermott scored 29 points and made five of Creighton's 15 3-pointers in the No. 21 Bluejays' victory over Missouri.
Notre Dame 65, Villanova 60: Cameron Biedscheid scored a season-high 18 points, 15 in the second half, and Jack Cooley added 17 points and 16 rebounds to lead the Irish
Mouphtaou Yarou led Villanova with 20 points, Darrun Hilliard scored 14 and JayVaughn Pinkston had 11.
Temple 71, Richmond 64: Scootie Randall scored 21 points and Anthony Lee posted a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds to help the Owls beat the Spiders.
Georgetown 74, Seton Hall 52: Otto Porter scored 20 points and the Hoyas made a season-high 15 steals.
Massachusetts 61, La Salle 60: Raphiael Putney scored 17 points and Chaz Williams made the game-winning layup with eight seconds left to help UMass edge the Explorers.
Lehigh 71, Navy 49: Stefan Cvrkalj scored 18 points, hitting five 3-pointers, and Holden Greiner posted a double-double as the Mountain Hawks routed the Midshipmen.
St. Joseph's 66, Fordham 62: Carl Jones tallied 19 points and hit key free throws down the stretch to help the Hawks outlast Fordham.
