Garrett GroffMargaret Garrett Groff, age 92, of Willow Valley Square, Lancaster, PA, passed away on Monday, January 28, 2013, at ArborView at Willow Valley.Born in Tucapau, SC, she was the daughter of the late Elias Edgar and Esther Davidson Garrett and the wife of the late Eugene George Groff, who died in March 2011.Margaret was educated in North Carolina Public Schools and graduated from Appalachian University with a BS degree in 1942. After moving to Lancaster with her husband in 1952, she substituted in the Lancaster City elementary schools and taught first grade for 18 years at Wickersham Elementary School. After retiring, she was active in the Conestoga, Wheatland-Conestoga and Primetime chapters of the American Business Women?s Association. She did volunteer work with the YWCA, the Arthritis Foundation and Trinity Lutheran Church. Margaret was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lancaster for almost 60 years.Her hobbies were reading, traveling and genealogy.Surviving are a son, George Groff, husband of Susan, of Willow Street; a daughter, Carole Sponaugle, of Lancaster; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and a sister, Elizabeth Garrett Buckley, of Gainesville, FL. Preceding Margaret in death were three brothers and one sister.The family would like to thank the staff at Willow ­Valley, ArborView, for their loving care.Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Margaret?s Life Celebration Memorial Service at the Orr Auditorium at Willow Valley Manor, 211 Willow Valley Square, Lancaster, PA, on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 3:00 PM with Deacon Augustus G. Mauro officiating. The family will receive friends at the auditorium from 2:00 PM until time of service. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent in Margaret?s name to Hospice & Community Care, 685 Good Dr., P.O. Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125 or the S.
