Trojans top Spartans in AAA opener
Five Spartans picked up individual victories, but it wasn't enough as Garden Spot fell to Chambersburg, 40-27, in a District Three Class AAA team wrestling first-round match Tuesday night at Cedar Cliff.
At 182, Garden Spot's Ben Swarr pinned Devon Williams in 1:52 to cut the Spartans' early deficit to 16-6. Zac Martin collected three more points for Garden Spot at 126, picking up a 5-4 decision over Chambersburg's David Rump.
In the next three bouts, Nick Cook (132), Alex Aharonian (138) and Will Finkey (145) recorded pins to spur the Spartans (13-5) on a 21-0 run to finish the match.
Chambersburg (16-3) advanced to the quarterfinals, scoring a 34-33 nod over Cedar Cliff to reach Thursday's semis. The Trojans will face Wilson (14-5) at 7 p.m. at Central Dauphin.
