Landon M. Proffitt, AIA, 84, died in hospice care in Lancaster, PA, January 28, 2013. He was a graduate of North Carolina State University with a BA in Engineering, and of Columbia University with an MA in Architecture. During the Korean War he served in the United States Army Corps of Engineers at Ft. Detrick in Frederick, MD.An architect, he practiced in New York, New Jersey, Maryland and Pennsylvania. He opened his own practice in Frederick, MD in 1973 and remained there until 1995, when he retired. While in Frederick he served on the City Historic District Commission and was an active member of the Frederick Presbyterian Church. In Lancaster, he served on the Historical Architectural Review Board of the Lancaster City Historic District and on the Trustees Building Committee of Lancaster Theological Seminary. He was an active member of Bethany Presbyterian Church in Lancaster.Surviving are his wife, Sally B. Proffitt and sister-in-law Lucille H. Proffitt (North Carolina), and four children: Michael L. Proffitt and partner Kate Kuranda; Anabel C. Proffitt and husband Chuck Melchert; Amy P. Robinette and husband Dale B. Robinette; and John S. Proffitt and his partner Jeanette Ide. In addition, he is survived by three grandchildren: Anne P. Dean and her husband Stephen Dean, Charles M.F. Proffitt, Bradley P. Robinette, and one great-grandchild, Katie S. Dean.Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service celebrating Landon?s life at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 9, 2013 in Santee Chapel at Lancaster Theological Seminary, 555 West James Street, Lancaster, PA. The family will receive friends prior to the service, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m in Mayer Commons at Lancaster Theological Seminary. There will be a reception following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethany Presbyterian Church, 25 N. West End Avenue, Lancaster, PA 17603, or Hospice and Community Care, Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125.
