John Mistretta
John Mistretta, 619 Wyncroft Lane, Lancaster, age 95, passed away January 28, 2013 while under Hospice care. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 69 years, Catherine. Surviving is a sister, Mildred DiBenedetto, wife of Anthony, and nieces and nephews.John was born in Queens, New York on December 12, 1917. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. After retiring from a long career with IBM, he and Catherine relocated to Lancaster where they had vacationed for many years.John liked to reminisce about meeting his wife at the Roseland Ballroom in New York and the old days of dancing with Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey, Harry James, and Frank Sinatra. He proudly remembered the many famous people Katie (his pet name for his wife) met while working at the Waldorf Astoria.Following Katie's death, John's dancing days changed to workouts at Planet Fitness where he developed many friendships. It was these friends who, less than a month before his death, celebrated his 95th birthday with a cake and a feature photo in the local news.Friends will be received on Thursday, January 31, 2013 from 11:00-11:30 AM at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 441 N. George St., Millersville, PA, with the Funeral Service to follow at 11:30 AM, Rev. Mark Weiss officiating. Interment in St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery.
