Power outage impacts city, MT
BY RYAN ROBINSON, Staff Writer
A widespread power outage affected parts of Lancaster city and Manheim Township for nearly an hour Tuesday morning, PPL reported.
"There was a problem at the Prince Street substation," PPL's John Levitski said. "It is one handling a bigger load, so the incident impacted more than 9,000 customers."
A large portion of the western half of the city lost power, as did a small number of customers in southern Manheim Township, he said.
"We were doing some work in the substation (Tuesday) morning, and we are not sure if the work might have attributed to the outage or if it was an equipment failure," Levitski said.
The outage started shortly after 8 a.m. and power was restored to all customers by about 9 a.m. The Prince Street substation is in the 500 block of North Prince Street.
Police officers and parking enforcement aides directed traffic at many intersections in the western half of the city after traffic signals went out, city police Lt. Todd Umstead said.
