Nuclear power is our future
TO THE EDITORS:
An obvious solution to global warming is to replace fossil fuel electrical generating power plants with nuclear. Finally, after all the years since TMI, two new nuclear plants are underway in Georgia.
The question of safety is a non-issue. The only persons killed in U.S. nuclear plants were those who fell off scaffolding during construction. Far greater risks are the radon in our homes and flying at high altitude with greater radiation exposure.
The only safer method of power generation is hydroelectric, but there are few remaining economically suitable sites in the United States. PPL is to be commended for tradition at Holtwood to double the output of the 112-year- old plant where my father was one of the first engineers in 1910.
