Don McLean caught speeding -- in a Chrysler

"American Pie" singer Don McLean has been fined $400 for driving his Chrysler too fast through a Rockland, Maine, school zone.

McLean's lawyer said he was driving 43 mph in an area that has a limit of 15 mph when school zone warning lights are flashing and 45 mph when they're not. He argued that the lights were off, but police said in Rockland District Court on Thursday that they were on. A judge lowered the fine from $515 to $400, and McLean immediately paid up.

McLean lives in nearby Camden, along Maine's coast. He burst into popularity in 1971 with his hit "American Pie," about the deaths of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper in a plane crash on Feb. 3, 1959 -- The Day the Music Died.

Fox News Channel is parting ways with former Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, ending her three-year tenure as a contributor on the network.

While Palin's time at Fox was occasionally rocky, the network's news executive, Bill Shine, said Friday that "we have thoroughly enjoyed our association" with her.

A person familiar with discussions between Fox and Palin described the parting as amicable, saying that Fox and Palin had discussed renewing her contract but she decided to do other things. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak on the record.

But there were some indications of tension between her and Fox News Chairman Roger Ailes, who was quoted in a 2011 story by The Associated Press saying, "I hired Sarah Palin because she was hot and got ratings."

The 37-year-old Canadian singer and his 25-year-old Argentine actress-wife were married in 2011. The couple met in 2009 during a South American concert tour. A representative for Buble confirmed that the couple is expecting.

Buble is a Grammy-winning pop singer who has sold millions of albums, including "Crazy Love" and 2011's "Christmas." Lopilato made her name as a model and in Argentine sitcoms and soap operas.
