Art show Concerts Education Film Speakers

n Embrace Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, Transgender and other Queer Coalition's film series on "Issues of Faith Within Diverse Communities" will screen the documentary film "Hineini," the story of an open lesbian teen at a Jewish high school who leads a struggle to set up a gay-straight alliance in the Boston area, at Congregation Shaarai Shomayim, 75 E. James St., for free at 2 p.m. Sunday. Lynn Pell will lead a discussion after the film about building safe places for teens to learn about themselves and one another. n The Musicians and Lecturers Series at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Lancaster, 538 W. Chestnut St., will present the Rev. Michael Dowd, who promotes the sacred side of science, speaking on "The Salvation of Religion: Evidence as Modern-Day Scripture" at 4 p.m. Sunday. Dowd is the author of the best-selling book, "Thank God for Evolution: How the Marriage of Science and Religion Will Transform Your Life and Our World." n Mennonite missionary and author Don Jacobs will tell "Stories of Boyhood, Missions in Africa & Sizing Up Life" at 7 p.m. Monday at Blossom Hill Mennonite Church, 333 Delp Road.

Don Jacobs and his wife, Anna Ruth Jacobs, were missionaries in Tanzania and Kenya from 1954 to 1973. During that time the local Mennonite church grew from 500 to 5,000 members.
