Raid nets drug gear, cash
BY RYAN ROBINSON, Staff Writer
Police seized drug paraphernalia and $5,000 cash after serving search warrants at two city homes Friday morning, they said.
Jesus Medina-Noriega Jr., 37, of 526 Pershing Ave., and Tywanna C. Brown, 33, of 544 Pershing Ave., both face charges of possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police found marijuana packaging materials at Medina-Noriega's home and cocaine packaging materials at Brown's home, city police Lt. Todd Umstead said.
Police also seized about $5,000 cash and assorted electronics equipment from Medina-Noriega's home.
Special emergency response teams from Lancaster and York counties simultaneously entered the homes shortly after 8 a.m., Umstead said.
Neighbors had told police about suspected illegal drug activity in the block back in October.
Police conducted surveillance, did undercover work and obtained the warrants, Umstead said.
About 35 people helped serve the warrants Friday, including city police, county drug task force detectives, representatives of the district attorney's office and the SERT teams.
Two armored BearCat vehicles were stationed on the block.
Police did not find illegal drugs, Umstead said.
"Based on the amount of suspected drug activity observed at these locations, it was certainly anticipated that quantities of narcotics would be located," Umstead said. "Today's search warrants instead led to the discovery of drug packaging materials and a substantial amount of cash."
The investigation could result in more charges, he said.
