Fire forces the evacuation of 2 apartments in city
BY LARRY ALEXANDER, Staff Writer
Fire damaged two apartments in Lancaster late Friday evening.
The fire at 539 W. Orange St. began around 9:20 p.m. in the bathroom of a second-floor apartment, said city fire Capt. Fred Lenhart. The fire spread into the apartment's bedroom. Firefighters had the blaze knocked down in about half an hour, but not before flames started to reach the apartment above. "There was a little extension into the third floor, but the crews got it knocked down pretty quick before it really got going up there," Lenhart said.
Lenhart said the cause of the fire is under investigation by the city fire marshal. No estimate of damage was available. The tenants of the two apartments were not permitted to move back in Friday night.
