"Hoppy" UnruhJ. Howard "Hoppy" Unruh, 94, of Ephrata, passed away on Wednesday, January 23, 2013, at the Ephrata Manor.He was born in Sas-katchewan, Canada to the late Henry and Anna Unruh and was the husband of Grace (Kurtz) Unruh; they were married 70 years on June 27th.Howard was a member of the Calvary Church, Lancaster, a former member of the Schoeneck Lions Club, he served as the treasurer of the Steinmetz Cemetery, and as a volunteer at the Ephrata Re-Uzit Shop for many years.For 35 years, Howard worked as a supervisor at the Adamstown Hat Co., until his retirement at age 65.In addition to his wife, Howard is survived by his children, Judy A., wife of Walter Martin of Ephrata; Ted, husband of Elaine (Sweitzer) Unruh of Reinholds and Jane, wife of Marlin Good of New Holland; brothers, John, husband of Carolyn Unruh of Lititz; Benjamin Unruh of Ephrata and Robert, husband of Shirley Unruh of New Holland; grandchildren, Lisa, Brian and Scott Martin; Jessica, wife of Daniel Valadie; Jared, husband of Becky Unruh; Tara, wife of Antonio Thompson; and 8 great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his son, James Unruh; a brother, Richard Unruh; and his sisters, Viola Henry, Luella Wingenroth, Verda Byler and Irene Fry.The family would like to extend a very special thanks to the Ephrata Manor Staff for their kind and compassionate care provided to Howard during his stay at the Home.A viewing will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2013, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at the Chapel at the Calvary Church, 1051 Landis Valley Road, Lancaster, followed by funeral services at 2:00 pm with Pastor David Allen and Chaplain Sally Maxwell officiating.
