Nine hurt in crash in Elizabeth Twp.

Nine people, including five children, were taken to area hospitals after two vehicles collided Thursday in Elizabeth Township.

None of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening, state police Trooper Leonard Szymanski said.

The crash happened around 5:10 p.m. at Hammer Creek and Clay roads.

Carolina Vanegas, 22, of Lititz, was eastbound on Hammer Creek in a Ford Freestyle when she went through a stop sign and "T-boned" a GMC Yukon driven by 35-year-old Amy Lundvall of Lititz that was traveling north on Clay Road, Szymanski said.

Vanegas' father, Henry Vanegas, 46, was riding in the front passenger seat and was pinned in the vehicle, which came to rest against a stone wall, officials said.

He had to be extricated from the car by emergency personnel.

Vanegas' three children were riding in the back seat. One child, a 2-year-old boy, was flown by Life Lion helicopter to Hershey Medical Center.

Symanski said the choice to fly the boy was a "precautionary measure."

The occupants of the Vanegas car, along with Lundvall and her passengers -- an adult male and two young children -- were transported to area hospitals by ambulance.

Szymanski said Carolina Vanegas, who lives about four miles from the site of the crash, was using a GPS unit at the time of wreck.

"She was using the GPS to get home and wasn't familiar with the roads," he said. "She never saw (the stop sign)."
