n The New York Knicks have surpassed the Los Angeles Lakers as the most valuable team in the NBA, according to Forbes' annual study.

Boosted by renovations to Madison Square Garden, the Knicks' value increased 41 percent to $1.1 billion. The Lakers were second at $1 billion.

n In May 2008, 15-year-old Sloane Stephens of Florida reached the quarterfinals of the inaugural Koser Jewelers' Pro Circuit Tennis Challenge at Hempfield Area Rec Center.

Wednesday, Stephens stunned the tennis world by defeating 15-time grand slam champion Serena Williams, 3-6, 7-5, 6-4 to reach the semifinals of the Australian Open.

Stephens is guaranteed $500,000 for reaching the semis. Her paycheck in 2008 at Landisville? $245.

"She is going to be like, 'The money you were going to buy yourself something nice with, you're going to pay your phone bill.'" -- American teenager Sloane Stephens, on her mother's reaction to her Australian Open upset of Serena Williams.
