Melvin E. Rineer, age 65, of Columbia, died peacefully, Monday, January 21, 2013, at the Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Columbia, he was the son of the late Stacie and Loretta (Fisher) Rineer. Mel was the husband of Elizabeth (Gable) Rineer; they were married for 30 years. He retired from the Armstrong Flooring Plant, Lancaster, after 15 years of service. Mel previously worked for 27 years for the former Grinnell Corporation, Columbia. He was a 1964 graduate of Columbia High School. Mel enjoyed the social life; he was a local disc jockey under the name "Mel?s Music Machine." He was a member of the American Legion Post 469, Columbia and Post 34, Lancaster; and the Susquehanna Fire and Rescue Company "Hambones," Columbia. Mel was a member of the "ROMEO CLUB" and a member of "Tim Brown?s Posse." He will be greatly missed.In addition to his wife, Mel is survived by his children: Dawn Minnich Blessing wife of Michael Blessing; Nicole Minnich Paris wife of Butch Paris; Christopher Minnich fiancé of Amy Klinedinst, 5 grandchildren: Andrew, Nathan, Ryan, Harlie, and Mackenzie, 1 great-granddaughter: Paisley, sisters-in-law: Maria Rineer, Tina wife of Bob Frutiger, Connie wife of Al Trimble, Bonnie wife of Morris Bish, 5 nephews, 2 nieces, and many friends. He was preceded in death by a brother: Eugene Rineer.A funeral service for Mel will be held Monday, January 28, 2013, from the Columbia United Methodist Church, 5th and Walnut Streets, Columbia, at 2 p.m. with Reverend Warren C. "Rocky" Riedel officiating. Interment will follow in Laurel Hill Memorial Gardens. A viewing will be held Sunday, January 27, 2013 at the Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home, Inc., 519 Walnut Street, Columbia, from 6-8 p.m., and again on Monday from 1 p.m. until the time of service. Please omit flowers.
