Lottery hearing draws compliments
TO THE EDITORS:
Kudos and a cigar for state Sen. Mike Brubaker on his thoughtful and competent chairing of the Senate Finance Committee's hearing regarding the governor's contract with the foreign company, Camelot Global Services, to run our state's lottery.
The hearing was conducted with great respect, was well organized and mirrored the calm and purposeful demeanor of the chair, Sen. Brubaker. Even though this surreptitiously conceived deal appears to now be completed, as interested taxpayers and senior citizens, we greatly appreciate the dedication and service to the citizenry of our state that the senator provided.
This was the first and only time that the public, and even the legislators, had a chance to learn about the details of this arrangement, and to hear testimony from key players on what is now a contentious issue and appears to be headed for the courts. As one of the committee members stated, it is a shame the governor did not provide transparency and an opportunity for review and input before the "cows left the barn."
Thus kudos go to Brubaker for being forthright and persistent in providing transparency, insight and more democracy for Pennsylvania's citizens. Thank you, senator.
