Upper Leacock Twp.retains leadership

Upper Leacock Township officials held a reorganization meeting Jan. 7 and retained the leadership of supervisors.

Ron Simmons, whose term expires Dec. 31, remains chairman of the board.

Jim Bennett, whose term expires Dec. 31, 2017, was re-elected vice chairman, and J. Harold Leaman, whose term expires Dec. 31, continues to serve on the board.

Beginning Feb. 7, the supervisors will meet at 6:30 p.m., half an hour earlier than in the past, on the first and third Thursday of each month in the community building, 36 Hillcrest Ave., Leola.

Michael H. Morris will continue as township manager/secretary/ treasurer.

Barbara Younker will continue to be assistant secretary/treasurer. Appel & Yost LLP will continue as township solicitor.

Maher Duessel will continue to audit all township accounts.

Rettew Associates Inc., 3020 Columbia Ave., was reappointed township engineer and can be reached at 394-3721.

There also were no changes made to the township's zoning hearing board, which consists of Levi Charles, chairman; Isabelle Carrigan, secretary; and Lorin Mellinger. The solicitor is Robert Sisko of Morgan Hallgren Croswell & Kane PC. The zoning officer will continue to be Jack Younker.

The zoning board meets at 7:30 p.m. on the first Monday of the month, as needed, in the community building. The zoning office is in the community building. It is open from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays and at other times by appointment.

There were no changes to the Leola sewer authority, which includes Nelson Bard, chairman, and members Robert Burkholder, Sam Huber, Wilmer Musser and Michael Reed. The solicitor is Harry Yost of Appel & Yost LLP. The authority meets on the second Thursday of the month at the community building.

The planning commission will reorganize Jan. 16. Members include chairman Ed Hinkle and Christopher Brown, Nick Ekis, Lee Gernert and Michelle Hoover. The planning commission meets at 7 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month at the community building.
