FUNDRAISER: Garden Spot Village, 433 S. Kinzer Ave., New Holland, will hold its fifth annual Birdhouse Display and Silent Auction Feb. 1 through Feb. 28.

The display will include dozens of handmade birdhouses and bird feeders donated by members of the Garden Spot Village woodshop. Also featuerd will be some wall hangings and a bird-themed quilt.

The Indoor Garden, where the birdhouses will be displayed, is open from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.

The public is invited to bid on any of the items in the silent auction, which will close at 5 p.m. on Feb 28.

Proceeds will benefit the Garden Spot Village Benevolent Fund, which helps provide continuing care for residents who need financial assistance.

OPEN HOUSE: The Red Rose City Chorus, Sweet Adelines International, will hold an open house on Monday, Jan. 28, from 7 to 10 p.m. at Lititz United Methodist Church, 201 E. Market St.

CLASS: The Montessori Academy of Lancaster, 2750 Weaver Road, will hold a winter class for 1- to 2-year-old children accompanied by a parent or caregiver.

The Young Explorers class is designed to develop fine and gross motor skills, social skills and language skills. It will include bubble and parachute play, songs and stories.

It will meet Tuesday mornings from 9:15 to 10:30 a.m. for eight weeks beginning Jan. 29.

MEETING: The Pygmy Goat Pride 4-H Club will meet Friday, Feb. 1, at 6:30 p.m. at the senior center in the Solanco Farm Show Complex, Quarryville.

Youth between 8 and 18 need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Enrollment papers will be handed out and the enrollment process reviewed.

Returning members should bring project books. New members will be introduced and club officers will be elected.

Dues are $11 and are payable at the meeting.

PROGRAM: Compass Mark and the School District of Lancaster are hosting a "Parent Palooza" from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Bright Side Opportunities Center, 515 Hershey Ave.

Open to the community, the event will feature food, door prizes, entertainment and giveaways.

More than 25 agencies and businesses also will be on hand to showcase their services in areas such as counseling, recreation, housing assistance, child care and education.

Clubs

SUPPER: The Abundant Life Supper Club will meet Thursday, Jan. 31, at the Lancaster Seventh Day Adventist Church, 151 City Mill Road.

The presentation will be a class on bread making by Gerald Waln. There will be a free vegetarian meal.

HISTORY: The World War II Oral History Club will meet Tuesday at 7 p.m. at St. Anne's Retirement Community, 3952 Columbia Ave., Columbia.

Speaker will be Paul Winters, who served as a medic in the 116th Infantry Regiment 29th Division. He was in the first wave landing on Omaha Beach on June 6, 1944, D-Day. He received two Purple Hearts.

The purpose of the club is to preserve an oral history of World War II. Anyone who is willing to share memories can call Dan Mastros, 684-9152.
