"Duck" Burkholder, Sr.Donald "Duck" Burkholder, Sr., 73, formerly of Ephrata, PA, died Monday, January 21, 2013 at Lancashire Hall, Lititz Pike, Lancaster, PA.Born at Red Run, Lancaster County, he was the husband of Joan Hendry Burkholder to whom he was married 53 years. He was the son of the late Samuel Burkholder and the late Anna Steiger Whitekettle.Donald was a truck driver for John Weidman & Sons Inc. of Ephrata for 38 years.He was an avid Phillies fan and enjoyed fishing, camping, playing Bingo, and playing cards.The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at Lancashire Hall for the wonderful care Donald was given during his stay there.Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Donald Burkholder, Jr., husband of Tami (Kepple) Burkholder of Ephrata, and Darrin Burkholder of Ephrata, one daughter, Denise Sensenig of Ephrata, and four grandchildren: Nathan Smith, Matthew Burkholder (Mandi Clapeich), Megan (Phillip Sutliff), and Mark Burkholder.Also surviving are two brothers, Leonard Burkholder (Shirley Messner) of Fivepointville, PA and Harry Burkholder (Betty Strothers) of Terre Hill, PA; four sisters, Eva Dickersheid of Ephrata, Jenny (Ray Martin) of Rehoboth Beach, DE, ­Beatrice Bord of Leola, PA, and Pauline Sweigart of Lock Haven, PA.Donald was preceded in death by brothers, William, Franklin, and Lee Burkholder and sisters, Florence Burkholder (infant) and Mary Stauffer.Friends will be received at Paul L. Gravenor Home For Funerals, 100 W. Main St., Ephrata, PA from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, January 24, and from 9:30-10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 25. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Friday with the Rev. Kevin Sylvester officiating.
