Jeanne P. Leman

Jeanne P. Leman, 93, ­formerly of Lancaster, died Monday morning, January 21, 2013, at Audubon Villa Nursing Home in Lititz, where she had been a guest for the past two years. Born in Adams County, she was the daughter of the late Gilbert and Eva Jacobs Hoffman. She was the widow of the late Dr. Jack D. Pigford, and of the late Dr. James M. Leman, who died in 1994. She was a graduate of Pennsylvania Hospital School of Nursing. She served proudly during WWII in the Pacific and European theaters and reached the rank of Captain in the Army Corps of Nursing.Following the raising of her children, she was a counselor at the Caron Foundation for many years. Through more than 30 years of her active involvement with AA, she encouraged individuals and built many strong relationships. Jeanne enjoyed being with her family, doing her cross-stitch embroidery and floral arranging, and was an avid reader.Recently, Jeanne was featured in two Lancaster newspaper articles; the first regarding the finding of personal jewelry including ­service-related jewelry found in the Conestoga River by a scuba diver, and the second article identifying Jeanne as the owner of the mystery items.Jeanne is survived by four daughters: Mary J. Fenna, Asheville, NC; Susanne C. Jemison, Lansing, MI; Jacqueline C., wife of John D. Ricketts, of Wenonah, NJ; Georgeanna L., wife of Dale Y. Corl, Mountville, PA; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two stepchildren: J. Michael Leman and Trudy Leman.Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Jeanne?s Celebration of Life Funeral Service at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 25, 2013, at The Groffs Family Funeral and Cremation Services, 528 W. Orange Street (corner of Pine and Orange Streets), Lancaster. The family will receive friends at The Groffs on Friday from 1:30 p.m. until the time of service. Interment will be in Millersville Mennonite Cemetery. If desired, memorials may be made in Jeanne?s name to the charity of one?s choice.
