State House 41: Dumeyer, Pickard out

Former Lancaster County GOP Chairman David M. Dumeyer, in a move that will likely surprise some in the party, said this morning he will not run for retiring state Rep. Katie True’s seat. The West Hempfield Township supervisor, a retired senior state House staffer who has deep political connections, was widely believed to have a strong interest in running for the position.

In a separate interview, Lancaster Township GOP Chairman Mike Pickard said he, too, had decided against a run. Their decisions against campaigns for the 41st Legislative District seat leave county Clerk of Courts Ryan Aument as the apparent front-runner for the Republican Committee of Lancaster County’s endorsement next month. Though there are several other potential candidates considering a run at the seat, Aument has benefited from True’s support. Though she hasn’t officially endorsed Aument, of Landisville, True has openly told people, “He has what it takes to go to Harrisburg.” Others who have said they are considering a run are East Hempfield supervisors Brett Miller and Doug Brubaker.
