This is related to what you might call the Manly Man Theory of Conservatism, which in this case includes religious conservatism.

Few weeks back in the vid I cited some film taken at the Glenn Beck rally wherein an anti-Glenn Beck guy is taunted by a woman who starts calling him a “girly man.”

Then last week some guy named Bryan Fischer, Director of Issues Analysis for the conservative Christian group the American Family Association, whined that we have “feminized” the medal of honor because one was recently awarded to a soldier for saving a comrade, rather than kill kill killing the other guy:

“So the question is this: when are we going to start awarding the Medal of Honor once again for soldiers who kill people and break things so our families can sleep safely at night?” “We have feminized the Medal of Honor,” Fischer wrote. He also quoted General Patton: “Gen. George Patton once famously said, ‘The object of war is not to die for your country but to make the other guy die for his.’”

Defending himself later on, Fischer said:

“The bottom line here is that the God of the Bible clearly honors those who show valor and gallantry in waging aggressive war in a just cause against the enemies of freedom, even while inflicting massive casualties in the process.” “What I’m saying is that it’s time we started imitating God’s example again.”

What?

“Christianity is not a religion of pacifism,” he wrote, adding: “War is certainly a terrible thing, and should only be waged for the highest and most just of causes. But if the cause is just, then there is great honor in achieving military success, success which should be celebrated and rewarded.”

Translation: Christianity kicks *ss. Literally.

What you have to understand about a guy like this is that he likely believes any war waged by the U.S. is by nature “the highest and most just of causes.” So war is terrible but, you know, not that terrible.

Because Manly Men wage war! And check out ‘roid rage Jesus, he was a Manly Man! Seething with vengeance on the cross, personally hoping to get Pilate by the pencil neck. You just know that down deep these people are ticked that Jesus didn’t pull an action hero go-down-in-a-hail-of-spear-fire assault on those who crucified him.

But he’ll be back, baby.

This would seem to be at odds with the whole love your enemies, turn the other cheek thing. But then only girly men turn the other cheek, I suppose.
