One of Christian rock’s best-ever bands, The 77′s, coming to Lancaster in March

For Christian music fans old enough to remember the last century, this is one band that provided them with much of the soundtrack.
The band is called the 77’s, a rock outfit led by Mike Roe that managed to inspire Christians in their faith while also reaching, positively, into the world at large.
And it’s been announced that the 77’s are coming to Lancaster for a show on Sunday night, March 18.
The show’s at 7 p.m. above the Prince Street Cafe, in the Community Room on Prince, across from the Fulton Opera House.
I remember seeing the 77’s in the mid-90s (with Jawbone Hill as an opener, for you one-time fans of the Jawbone like me) at the old Lancaster YFC, and I can remember being startled that a band could be Christian and could still rock so well.
And the Peter Buck-like guitar on “The Lust, the Flesh, The Eyes & and The Pride of Life” sounded to me then, like it does now, as one of the prettier things I’ve heard in any music.
The 77′s released 11 studio albums and four live albums, and their music, such as the song “MT,” was featured back on “Beverly Hills 90210.”
They were lost in the shadow of U2’s “Joshua Tree” and moved from their record company over to Broken Records for one of their most successful albums, “Sticks and Stones,” which they are now re-releasing.
And the Lancaster stop is part of a special limited unplugged tour to support the re-release.
“It’s been nearly 22 years since the release of ‘Sticks And Stones,’ and it will be exciting to have the album available again and celebrate the re-release with the fans who have loved it and supported us for all these years,” 77’s frontman Mike Roe said.
The March 18 unplugged show will feature Roe and David Leonhardt performing songs from “Sticks And Stones” along with the extensive 77s catalog.
Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door, and organizers say the show will sell out at 100 tickets.
