“The Day” 2011 coming back to New Holland on Saturday, June 4

Happy to be able to tell everyone that “The Day” in New Holland, a truly powerful, spirit-led and rock-fueled day of music, will be returning in 2011.
The 11th annual daylong celebration of music, preaching and renewal will be held Saturday, June 4, at the New Holland Park along Jackson Street.
Highlighting the festival will be the first appearance by well-known Christian artist Aaron Shust, the Dove Award winner who’s best known for the modern worship classic, “My Savior My God.”
This year, along with local worship teams and local ministries, the band Relevant Worship will be returning to The Day, but under a new name, Brothers McClurg.
The Buffalo-based band gave a fiery performance as the headliner at last year’s event,
Organizers in and around New Holland “are very excited about this year’s event,” as one, Crystal Sowel, says in an email to supporters.
“We are still putting together our schedule, and have a few openings,” and are especially looking for smaller ministries for the park’s “low stage” along with an instrumentalist who may be able to minister on a piano or guitar to provide a reflective quiet time, Sowel also says.
Rain location for The Day is at Petra Christian Fellowship, 565 Airport Road, New Holland.
It looks from here like attracting Shust will be quite a coup for the New Holland festival.
“My Savior My God” won for best song of the year at the 2007 Doves, while Shust won both best new artist and for songwriter of the year.
Other well-known songs from Shust’s trademark voice include “Give Me Words to Speak,” “Watch Over Me” and “To God Alone.”
New Holland’s annual early-summer day of music and preaching has become a yearly early-June tradition in New Holland.
One of my personal favorite moments was when Jeff Deyo, the former Sonicflood frontman, rocked it out to close the 2009 show.
More to come as details are announced regarding the show.

Dave O'Connor has been a reporter at the Intelligencer Journal/Lancaster New Era since 1988. A Christian music buff, his favorite bands and singers range from Kutless and Third Day to Casting Crowns, Caedmon's Call and Sara Groves (throw in some Stellar Kart, too!). A Pittsburgh native, he grew up loving popular music, and immediately grew to love the diversity and talent of Christian music since making his own commitment of faith in 1993. He plays bass and sings as part of a Lancaster-area three-man worship band.
