A Manheim Township woman has been missing for more than a month, her sister-in-law has reported.
Faye Stiffler, 54, of the 1500 block of Eden Road, went missing Nov. 27, according to Karen Stum, of Carlisle.
Stum said Stiffler has been diagnosed bipolar and schizophrenic, and that she has disappeared in the past, although for much shorter periods.
"It would just be one or two days at the most, and someone would call to say she was with them," Stum said.
Stiffler is married to Stum's brother, Charles Stiffler, who could not immediately be reached Saturday for comment. The couple have no children.
According to Stum, Mrs. Stiffler had recently stopped taking her prescribed medications before she went missing.
On the morning of Nov. 27, Stiffler called Stum to tell her she thought people were "out to get her," Stum said.
"She would do that from time to time, and it was never real," Stum said.
Stiffler called Manheim Township police that morning, Stum said, and then left home in her truck.
Stum said Stiffler drove to a "behavioral health services" center in Lancaster, where officials evaluated her.
Stum did not know which center her sister-in-law went to.
Stum said Stiffler was supposed to be taken by ambulance to Lancaster General Hospital from there, but she walked out of the facility and hasn't been heard from since.
Stiffler did not leave by vehicle, Stum said. Mr. Stiffler eventually was called to retrieve the vehicle from the center.
Mr. Stiffler told Stum that a family friend reportedly last saw his wife at the base of Welsh Mountain in eastern Lancaster County.
Stum didn't know when that possible sighting occurred, nor could she be more specific about the location. She said that sighting was not definitive.
Stiffler is described a being 5 feet, 6 inches tall, weighing about 160 pounds. She has strawberry-blond hair.
She was last seen wearing blue jeans and a purple shirt, according to Stum.
Stum said she has tried calling area hospitals to locate her sister-in-law to no avail.
Police Sgt. Thomas Rudzinski said Saturday:
"The Manheim Township Police Department last had contact with Mrs Stiffler approximately four weeks ago. At that time, she stated that she did not wish to return home. The department has not had contact with her since that time.
"As a result of her family's concerns, we are attempting to locate her."
Anyone with information on Mrs. Stiffler's whereabouts is urged to call the Manheim Township police at 569-6401; Stum at 243-4921, or Mr. Stiffler at 295-1716.
