A search for a missing 23-year-old Lancaster woman ended successfully early Friday morning, police reported.

Officers were dispatched at 1:44 a.m. to a home on Hebrank Street, city police Sgt. Bill Hickey said.

The woman had walked away from the home, dressed only in a nightgown and flip-flops. She had not been seen since 11:30 p.m. Thursday, he said.

The woman reportedly has issues that caused her family to worry about her welfare.

Officer Ryan Work began a search for her and notified surrounding police departments, hospitals and EMS and fire agencies, Hickey said.

City firefighters and the Red Rose K-9 Search and Rescue group also joined the effort.

At 3:59 a.m., an employee at the Lancaster General Hospital Health Campus spotted the woman walking along Harrisburg Pike and called 911, Hickey said.

Ten minutes later, Work found her near Rohrerstown and Harrogate roads in East Hempfield Township, more than four miles from her home.

Police believe she walked the entire way, Hickey said. No taxi companies had picked her up, and Red Rose Transit Authority buses were not operating.

EMS personnel checked the woman for prolonged exposure to the cold, and she was transported to a local hospital for treatment, Hickey said.

No injuries were reported.
