Police say a man killed at an East Lampeter Township motel Sunday was stabbed to death.
Jeffrey Michael Brent, 24, with a last-known address in the 400 block of East Main Street, Mountville, was the victim of a homicide, township police previously reported.
His killer had not been taken into custody, township police Lt. Robin Weaver said Wednesday.
"We don't believe there is a threat to public safety," he said. "This was an isolated incident."
Weaver declined to say if police had a suspect, witnesses or surveillance footage of the incident, citing the ongoing investigation.
He also would not discuss a possible motive or say if the victim knew his killer.
Brent died from injuries sustained in a rear parking lot of the Budget Host Inn, 2100 Lincoln Highway East, police said. Brent was not a hotel guest, police said.
A "confrontation" occurred and Brent was stabbed, Weaver said.
Weaver would not say what type of weapon was used or how many times Brent was stabbed.
Emergency personnel were called to an undisclosed motel, also in the 2100 block of Lincoln Highway, just after 3 a.m. Sunday for a report of a cardiac arrest. They arrived and found Brent deceased on the floor of the motel lobby, according to police.
Brent was single and did not have any children, Weaver said. His family lives in the Washington D.C., area, but he had lived in the Lancaster area for six years.
Brent had attended Pennsylvania College of Art & Design in downtown Lancaster.
"We are very actively investigating, with the assistance of Lancaster County's Major Crimes Unit, county detectives and the district attorney's office," Weaver said. "These type of investigations take some time. We are working nonstop, day and night."
Lancaster County District Attorney Craig Stedman did not immediately return a request for comment on the case Wednesday.
County Coroner Dr. Stephen Diamantoni on Wednesday declined to comment on specifics of the death, citing the ongoing investigation.
Police ask anyone with information to call them at 291-4676. Tipsters also can call Lancaster City/County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-322-1913 or anonymously text LANCS plus a message to 847411 (TIP411).
