Auntie Anne's, headquartered in Lancaster, will be featured in the upcoming A&E series "Be the Boss," which premieres at 10 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2.
Auntie Anne's is the subject of an episode airing Sunday, Dec. 16.
"Be the Boss," a competition-based series, pits two employees of a franchise-based company against each other for a chance to own a franchise — to be their own bosses.
The show comes from the Emmy Award-winning creators of "Undercover Boss," which airs at 8 p.m. Friday on CBS.
In each episode of "Be the Boss," a CEO summons two candidates to company headquarters and puts them through a series of challenges to determine their aptitude for senior management.
The employees try to prove they are worthy of what they believe will be a simple promotion, but they're in for a surprise when the winner gets the opportunity own a franchise.
With franchise fees often running into the hundreds of thousands and sometimes even exceeding 1 million dollars, "Be the Boss" offers one of the largest prizes in all of television, and a promotion goes to the runner-up.
Besides Auntie Anne's, other companies featured in the first season include Complete Nutrition, Signal 88 Security, Molly Maid, Jazzercise and The Melting Pot.
WLPA and local news: Following the general election Nov. 6, officials at WLPA-AM 1490 opted not to bring back WGAL-TV 8 news, which aired on the sports radio station at 6 a.m., 6 p.m. and 11 p.m.
Years ago, I enjoyed listening to the station when it aired WGAL's popular "Football Friday" high school highlights show at 11:30 p.m. Friday.
For at least 12 years, 1490 simulcast the local news on its station, but officials said in the interest of consistency in its programming, they have decided to not bring back WGAL.
"This allows us to continue with our Fox sports programming rather than jump away from programs and come back after the news, which disrupts the flow of the programs," Sue Sensenig, WLPA's program director, said in an email.
"It also allows us to have the same schedule week to week and month to month ... so we are not running news one month then dropping it during a political season, then bringing it back, then not airing it due to a sporting event/awards show running late on Channel 8, then bringing it back."
Prior to the decision, 1490 dropped the simulcasts during election season 45 days before primary elections and 60 days before general elections because radio is not permitted to run political advertisements that air on TV because the ads do not provide the proper disclosures for a sound-only audience. The ads were purchased for TV, not radio.
I can understand the decision, as the newscasts also conflicted with Penn State basketball games, but I will miss listening to local news on the radio.
