Boaters, rejoice. Hunters, not so fast.

The Pequea boat ramp will reopen Wednesday. Hunting restrictions around the Holtwood hydroelectric plant will continue, however, because of ongoing construction work.

Access to the ramp onto the Pequea Creek was closed several weeks back so that area of the creek could be dredged, PPL spokesman John M. Levitski said Sunday.

The work was done to improve boating conditions "during lower lake levels outside of normal recreation season," according to a press release issued Friday by PPL, which owns the site.

With the Pequea ramp reopened, PPL will turn its attentions to the western bank of the Susquehanna River. The York Furnace boat ramp will close Nov. 28 and is expected to reopen Dec. 21.

In a separate release Friday, PPL announced that hunting restrictions will continue at the Holtwood Preserve.

About 500 acres surrounding the power plant will be closed to hunters because of safety concerns while a construction project there is completed, Levitski said.

The restrictions will remain in place for the duration of the 2012-13 hunting season.
