A burglary suspect is behind bars after he entered an occupied Manheim Township home in broad daylight and was confronted by a resident, police said.
Investigators said that Cory D. Brkopac, 22, of 2165 Old Philadelphia Pike, fled Wednesday after being confronted by the resident.
After a brief search, officers picked him up a short distance away.
Brkopac was charged with burglary, theft and conspiracy. He was arraigned by District Judge Mary Mongiovi Sponaugle and committed to Lancaster County Prison in lieu of $100,000 bail.
According to police, a resident of the 2000 block of Wynfield Drive was upstairs shortly after noon when he heard a noise on the first floor.
The resident went downstairs and encountered a man carrying a laptop and a backpack, Lt. Robert Baldwin said.
After a "brief tussle," the suspect ran from the home, Baldwin said.
He said 15 to 20 officers responded to the home at 12:24 p.m. and canvassed the area in search of the suspect.
A short time later, police found Brkopac less than a mile away in the area of Euclid Drive and Rockford Lane, Baldwin said.
Brkopac admitted to taking a laptop, a PlayStation, jewelry and cash from the home, he said.
Baldwin said there was no forced entry and that Brkopac entered the house via a garage door.
A preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. Oct. 19.
