An early morning fire damaged New Holland Church Furniture, 313 Prospect St., on Sunday.

The fire was in the area of a storage building outside the main plant. Liberty Fire Company, assisted by other departments, extinguished the fire.

The fire was discovered about 2:18 a.m. in an outside container holding rags that had been used to stain or varnish church pews made by the company, Deputy Fire Chief Jeff Martin said.

The chemicals on the rags appeared to have spontaneously combusted, he said, and the fire spread to the exterior of the business. The fire, which caused $10,000 to $15,000 in damage to the building, was ruled accidental.
