Gregg Hostetter's sterling return to the game of golf continued Sunday at Hershey Country Club's East Course, where he posted a final-round, even-par 71 to win the 43rd Jake Gittlen Memorial tournament.

Hostetter, making his first Gittlen appearance thanks to a 5-under 66 in qualifying Wednesday, entered Sunday's round one shot off the pace after carding an opening-round, 1-under 70 Saturday.

Getting into red figures for good Sunday with a birdie on No. 11, Hostetter rode seven straight pars down the stretch to a one-shot win over first-round co-leader Kevin Haag (69-73—142).

Manheim Township senior Craig Hornberger (70-74—144) finished tied for third, while defending champion Brixton Albert of Lititz finished tied for fifth.

Landisville's Andrew Arnold (70-76—146, tied for seventh) and Casey Osborne of Lititz (70-77—147, tied for ninth) also earned spots in the top 10.

Jim Mastromatteo, who plays out of the Lancaster Host Resort, won the senior division by four shots with rounds of 71-71—142.

Sunday's win was the latest installment in a successful return to golf for Hostetter, who — after winning back-to-back Lancaster-Lebanon League individual titles in 2003 and '04 and competing on the golf team at Division I Campbell University in North Carolina for a couple of years — decided to step away from the game.

Now a 25-year-old who works in wealth management for a Lancaster bank, Hostetter resurfaced on the local golf scene with a tied-for-seventh showing at the Lanco Amateur in June.

And after teaming with Connor Lefever to win the Lanco Better Ball a few weeks later, Hostetter finished second to Albert at the Lanco Open in late July.

Prior to Sunday's win, Hostetter was third in the Lanco Golf Association's Player of the Year points standings, behind Hornberger and Zak Drescher.
