One night after opening the season with a shutout loss, the Lancaster Barnstormers bounced back in a big way.
Scoring three runs in the ninth inning, the Barnstormers rallied for a 6-4 victory over host Southern Maryland at Regency Furniture Stadium.
Delivering the key hits were Brad Boyer, Terry Tiffee and Tommy Everidge, all at the expense of Blue Crabs reliever Jim Ed Warden, who started the inning in place of Eduardo Morlan, holding a 4-3 lead.
Jaime Pedroza led off with a single for Lancaster and scored one out later when Boyer tripled. Tiffee followed with a double to score Boyer, then took third base on a wild pitch and scored on Everidge's sacrifice fly.
The rally made a winner of Mike Johnston (1-0), who pitched just a-c of an inning, while Tim Hamulack picked up the save.
Kody Kirkland, moving from third base to designated hitter on Friday night, was another offensive hero for the Barnstormers. He went 2 for 3, including his first homer of the season, a two-run shot in the third inning, to erase the Blue Crabs' early 1-0 lead.
Kirkland knocked in a third run in the sixth inning, with a two-out infield single to score Blake Gailen.
