Her friends call her "a fountain of useless information," and they mean it in a good way.

For Solanco High School senior Jocelynn Ritchey, knowing all sorts of things has made her a top student and given her the incentive to pursue her dream in life.

"I would just love to be on 'Jeopardy!', that's my dream," said the 18-year-old, who rarely misses the evening game show.

Right now, she's too young to be on the adult show and too old to be on the teen show, she said. But she'll be keeping that dream alive and possibly do the online test to make it.

In the meantime, she is on her high school's Quiz Bowl team. The team travels to tournaments at Penn Manor, Conestoga Valley, Manheim Township and other schools, with the goal of answering questions and winning the top prize.

"I do pretty well," Ritchey said, adding that she loves to read to acquire knowledge.

The daughter of Toni Alexander and Joseph Ritchey, she has two brothers, Joseph, 20, who is studying computers at York Technical Institute, and Anthony, who is 4.

Ritchey enjoys being the big sister and helps out with her younger brother. She also is busy with school activities, which include music and working on community fundraisers.

She is in the gifted program at her school and participates in the mock trial program, in which students learn about the justice system by portraying judges, lawyers and jurors. She also has participated in the Odyssey of the Mind engineering competition, making it to state level contest on April 14.

In addition, she is involved in Renaissance Club, which plans school spirit activities such as ice cream socials and pep rallies. Another interest is Ophelia Day, which is held each year to link high school students with special needs students as "buddies" for a fun-filled carnival.

"Everyone really enjoys it," said Ritchey, adding that the bond between students is a very rewarding experience.

Still another event in which Ritchey participates is International Culture Day, an event sponsored by the Spanish Club. Its purpose is celebrating world cultures through food, music, dance and more.

Ritchey plans to attend Drexel University in Philadelphia this fall. She will study accounting and marketing in hopes of going into a business career that combines two of her top interests.

"I enjoy working with numbers and could picture myself as a government auditor," Ritchey said.

Of course, she doesn't plan to give up her other passion: music. Ritchey plays the baritone trombone and flute in the band and also sings soprano. She has had parts in school musicals that include "Fiddler on the Roof," "Oklahoma" and "Bye Bye Birdie."

She spends a lot of time practicing her music and singing. She also spends time at her volunteer job at New Hope Community Chest, which raises funds through its thrift store for counseling, food, clothing and other services for the needy, especially older people.

One day, Ritchey hopes to do some traveling. She already has been to Walt Disney World in Florida. She smiles when she explains why she hasn't done as much traveling as she might like.

"I'm afraid of heights, so I don't like to fly," Ritchey said. "But I'll have to get over that."
