The Lancaster Barnstormers have traded right-handed pitcher Matt Wright to the Sugar Land Skeeters for the rights to former major league right-hander Logan Kensing.
The Waco, Texas native and his wife had their first child during the fall, and the move was made to accommodate Wright.
"Matt wanted to play close to home," said manager Butch Hobson in a press release. "He was the best starter in the league, in my mind, in the second half, last year, but I needed to make this right for him."
Wright pitched to a 7-10 mark and 3.98 ERA last season, finishing among the Atlantic League's top 10 in the latter. He was only 1-5 with a 7.50 ERA through June 19 but bounced back and posted a 2.84 ERA over the remainder of the season. He pitched a critical 6-0 win over Camden on July 6 as the Barnstormers retook first place in the standings with four days left in the first half for his second win.
The former Atlanta Braves prospect also boosted Lancaster to a 6-1 victory in Game Four of the Division Series against York.
Kensing, 29, also hails from Texas. He signed with the Florida Marlins in 2003 and reached the big leagues in September 2004. He appeared in 108 Major League games for the Marlins through early 2009 before moving over to the Washington Nationals. The Nationals used him in 26 more games that season.
Kensing opened last season in Bridgeport where posted a 1.59 ERA in nine games for the Bluefish. He was signed by the New York Yankees and spent the remainder of the season with Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, where he went 1-1 with four saves and a 4.28 ERA.
Kensing began this spring in camp with the Pittsburgh Pirates but was assigned to the minor league camp in late March. He has not been officially assigned to a club roster.
