Elizabethtown and Lancaster Mennonite won first-round games in the District Three Boys' Basketball Tournament Wednesday.
The Bears toppled host South Western, 67-52, in a Class AAAA contest while the visiting Blazers knocked off Tulpehocken, 60-47, in Class AA.
In Class AAAA:
Elizabethtown 67, South Western 52: Tyler Koser scored 17 points, Kasey Koser added 16 and Lucas Jewell 15 to pace the No. 11 Bears (16-7) past the No. 6 Mustangs (21-5).
Jon Garber added 10 points for E-town, which advances to face No. 14 Central Dauphin East in Saturday's quarterfinal round. The Panthers (14-10) stunned No. 3 Cedar Cliff, 57-53.
Game time is 10 a.m. at the Giant Center.
Parker Bean scored a game-high 20 for South Western. Rafe Sanders hit a game-best four 3-pointers and scored 14.
In Class AA:
Lancaster Mennonite 60, Tulpehocken 47: Zach Lehman had 10 of his game-high 21 points and Taylor Wilson nailed two of his five 3-pointers in the second quarter when Mennonite outscored the Trojans 20-9 to turn a 7-5 first-period deficit into a 25-16 halftime lead.
Wilson finished with 17 points and Matt Hess added 15 for No. 9 Mennonite (7-16), which will travel to top-seeded York Catholic (16-7) for a 2 p.m. quarterfinal game Saturday.
No. 8 Tupehocken closes out its season at 9-13.
