A former local all-star athlete will serve probation for assaulting a man last year outside a Manheim Township hotel.

Leontae Turner admitted to "smacking" the victim and knocking him to the pavement on May 12 at Country Hearth Inn on Keller Avenue.

In exchange for the guilty plea, prosecutors agreed to a sentence of 2 years on probation and a $100 fine.

Turner, a 2010 McCaskey graduate, was named to the Lancaster-Lebanon League All-Decade basketball team after starring for four years for the Red Tornado.

Regarded as one of the best to ever play at McCaskey, Turner holds the school's single-game scoring record.

Lancaster County President Judge Joseph Madenspacher accepted the plea deal and ordered sentence on Wednesday.

"I'm surprised to see someone like you in here," Madenspacher told the 21-year-old Turner.

Turner's attorney, Daniel Kaye, said the crime was out of character.

"This appears to be a bizarre incident for him," Kaye told Madenspacher. "He's really sorry for what he did."

Turner was with a group that night when a fight broke out, according to investigators. After Turner knocked the man to the ground, another man robbed the victim of his wallet and cell phone.

That man, 23-year-old Jonathan Ocasio-Figueroa, of Lancaster city, is charged with robbery and theft.

Turner, of Lancaster, wasn't involved in the robbery.

Turner spent three days in Lancaster County Prison last summer on the assault charge before a bondsman posted bail.

Turner, after a semester and a half at Northampton Community College in Bethlehem, now is working part-time for a temp agency, his attorney said. He does have a full-time job lined up, the judge was told.

Turner declined to speak when prompted by the judge.
