A Terre Hill man was arrested after police found five loaded guns inside his unlocked van at an Atlantic City, N.J., casino parking garage, according to a newspaper report.
One of the handguns was reported as stolen in Pennsylvania, according to a criminal complaint.
It was around 9:45 a.m. Tuesday when the Atlantic City Fire Department was called for a vehicle that was leaking fuel at the Bally's Casino parking lot on the 1900 block of Pacific Avenue, The Press of Atlantic City reported.
Firefighters received word that someone may have been sleeping inside, so they opened an unlocked rear door and found a rifle, the newspaper said.
Firefighters notified officers on the scene when, police said, Dale S. Ewell, 54, of Terre Hill, walked up and said it was his van, The Press reported.
Ewell was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of weapons.
Police said Ewell cooperated with police and indicated that he had other weapons in the van, the newspaper reported.
In all, police said, two handguns, two rifles and one shotgun were recovered from the van, The Press reported. All the weapons were loaded.
Ewell was arraigned and committed to the Atlantic County Justice Facility in Mays Landing, N.J., in lieu of $100,000 bail, an Atlantic City Municipal Court spokeswoman said.
