Susquehanna Bancshares opened for business Tuesday with new branches and a new president, both formerly part of Tower Bancorp.

The additions follow Friday's completion of the $343 million stock-and-cash purchase of Tower and Monday's Presidents Day holiday, when bank offices were closed.

The deal brings Lititz-based Susquehanna to $17.5 billion in assets and 261 offices in four states, expanding into several new markets and deepening its presence in others.

In Lancaster County, Susquehanna has 33 offices, its highest concentration, plus nearly 1,000 employees.

With the transaction finalized, Andrew Samuel, Tower's chairman, chief executive officer and co-founder, has joined Susquehanna as president and chief revenue officer.

Samuel, of Dillsburg, will get a $550,000 annual salary, Susquehanna disclosed Tuesday in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing.

Samuel also could receive a bonus up to the same amount, according to the filing.

In a year, assuming he's still at Susquehanna, Samuel will receive a $2.8 million retention payment.

Added to the Susquehanna board were three Tower directors:

Samuel; Jeffrey F. Lehman, president and CEO of Lancaster-based Shank's Extracts; and Robert E. Poole Jr., CEO of S&A Homes, State College.

Susquehanna also announced that its four-state footprint has been divided into 12 regions, each with its own regional president, to maintain the organization's community focus and local decision-making.

Lancaster County is its own region, headed by Barry Miller of Lititz, a long-time Susquehanna executive who most recently was managing director of retail banking.
