Firefighters battled a blaze Tuesday just outside of Columbia, but there were no injuries.
Fire struck a three-story duplex at 2346 Ironville Pike in West Hempfield Township shortly after 8 a.m., Jason Sauder, deputy chief of West Hempfield Fire & Rescue, said.
Two parents and a child inside the burning home escaped safely before firefighters arrived, fire Chief Barry Carter said. He declined to give their names.
About 25 firefighters worked at the scene, he said. They quickly extinguished the fire after arriving, containing the flames to an upstairs bedroom, which was destroyed.
"There is some smoke damage throughout the home," Carter said. "It will be livable after it is cleaned."
The American Red Cross was called to assist the family, he said.
Damage was estimated at $15,000 to the home and $5,000 to its contents, Carter said. The fire did not affect the other half of the duplex.
Trooper Brian Herr, a state police fire marshal, was trying to determine the cause of the fire.
