TO THE EDITORS:

Almost 250 years ago, patriotic but untrained militia took on the insurmountable task of taking up arms against a well-trained, well-funded army. Their cause? Freedom. "Freedom from taxation without representation." Freedom for the right to practice Christianity how their conscience dictated. Freedom from an overbearing government.

A just cause, but it would take incredible sacrifice. Each family sacrificed the security of their family in physical and financial ways. And in many cases, they gave their lives because they believed in a free America.

America is at no less a crossroads today. As our government continues to grow, we edge closer and closer to the socialism that has failed every time throughout history and is destroying Europe right now. Our government is slowly taking over our lives. From little things, like what light bulb we can use to how we should spend our money to, now the final straw, what we are allowed to believe as Christians.

Thankfully, our forefathers had the insight to guide us through the Constitution, so that we don't have to take up arms to regain our freedom. We can go to the voting booth. And vote for patriotic, God-fearing Americans.

Rick Santorum was a longshot to get through the "wishy-washy" Republican establishment. But as patriotic Americans wake up and realize how much is at stake, a groundswell is taking place. Like the patriots long ago, the cost is measured and the sacrifice is made. We are not asked to sacrifice our physical lives, but our sacrifice is every bit as important. It's going to take sacrifice from all supporting families to get him the whole way to the White House. Our time and finances (sometimes beyond what we can afford) have to be poured into this just cause. It's a battle that will be difficult and sometimes flat-out depressing as the left and their "mainstream media" attack us.

We don't want to be Greece. And, after seeing Obama's last proposed budget, it is more clear than ever. We can't afford to fail. The cause is worth every penny. An America we can pass on to our children with pride. An America the way God intended it to be way back when he gave it to us. A light to the world. A force for freedom. God bless America!
