An early morning fire did $10,000 worth of damage to pallets of ceiling tiles at the Armstrong plant in Marietta, a fire official said.

A dozen fire companies responded to the 3:12 a.m. blaze at the Armstrong World Industries plant at 1507 River Road.

The fire was contained to a 15-foot-square area in a stack of pallets at the plant, said Chief Adam Kosheba, of the Maytown-East Donegal Fire Company.

The fire started smoldering because the tiles were still warm after they came out of a kiln at the plant, Kosheba said.

The building's sprinkler system kept the fire from spreading into the ceiling or roof of the plant, the chief added.

There were no injuries ,and firefighters cleared the scene after about three hours.
