Five Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology wrestlers qualified Saturday for the National Junior College Athletic Association's Men's Wrestling Championship to be held in Rochester, Minn. in two weeks.
Sterling Goshea (Donegal), after going 6-0 in conference matches this season, swept through Saturday's Tournament as well to capture first place in the 197 lb. weight class. Goshea also competed at nationals last year and fell one match short of being named an All-American.
Matthew Flynn placed third overall at 125-pounds and Matthew Flick (Penn Manor) was third at 141.
Daniel Ortiz (285) and Corey Seasock (184) also advanced. Ortiz was fourth place, and Seasock earned a wild-card entry.
Stevens College finished fifth in the team standings.
• George Mason won all but two matches and handed Millersville wrestling a 36-9 loss Saturday evening at Pucillo Gymnasium.
Millersville (2-11) received wins from freshman Josh Ruppert at 133 pounds and from heavyweight Chase Godfrey.
Elizabethtown's Quint Eno won a decision and William Bentley won via forfeit, but No. 24 Messiah collected three straight pins to seal a 41-9 dual victory over the No. 22 Blue Jays on Saturday.
Squash: Franklin & Marshall defeated Navy, 8-1, in its regular season finale on Saturday afternoon at the Mayser Center. The Diplomats move to 11-6 with the victory, while the Midshipmen drop to 21-6.
The Diplomats posted straight-game victories in half of their eight wins, with two going four games and the remaining two triumphs stretching to five. Guilherme de Melo (No. 2), Mauricio Sedano (No. 3), Ryan Mullaney (No. 5) and Brian Henry (No. 8) each rolled past their opponents without dropping a game.
At No. 1, Gabriel de Melo shook off a setback in game one to down Andrew McGuinnes in four games.
Indoor Track & Field: Matt Rever, Aaron Focht and Traci Tempone each claimed victories for Elizabethtown in the Bucknell Winter Classic Saturday.
Rever won the men's 800 in 1:54.48, with teammate Russell Speiden in fourth in 1:55.51. Focht took the mile in 4:19.64, edging fellow Blue Jay Evan DeArmitt, who was second in 4:20.67.
Tempone won the women's 3,000 in 10:05.51. Eileen Cody was third in 10:33.60.
Jenna Niedermayer paced the Blue Jays in the jumps, earning top-five places in three events, highlighted by a third-place finish in the long jump (17-3.5).
• Greg Duckloe paced Franklin & Marshall at the Bucknell Winter Classic, winning the 5,000-meter run in 15:16.38.
On the women's side, Sheena Crawley claimed the 800 in 2:11.48. Caitlin Regan (1:18.34) and Henley Siegrist (59.67) eached earned second-place finishes in the 500 and 400, respectively for the Diplomats.
Mike Dohrmann was third in the 60-meter hurdles (8.50), and Derek Pawlush took third in the 500 (1:08.85).
• James McBride led Millersville at the Bucknell Winter Classic, coming in second place in the 3,000 in 8:34.58.
Katherine Lennex (Penn Manor) led the women, finishing third in the 60-meter dash in 8.04.
Baseball: The No. 7 Millersville baseball team opened its 2012 campaign Saturday by splitting a doubleheader with Winston-Salem State at BB&T Ballpark. Millersville won the opener 9-5 but fell in game two by a 6-5 final.
Millersville (1-1) supported starter Brooks Rothschild (1-0) in game one by jumping to a 6-0 lead. Senior Mike Perez went 2-for-2 and drew two walks.
